Acai Berry Pills
Can Acai Berry Pills Make You Lose Weight?
Acai berry pills – or the capsules, drinks, powders, yoghurts, etc – are the latest “miracle” weight loss cure. This is in addition to the Big Five of diet supplements, chromium, green tea, Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA), Orlistat (Alli) and Hoodiar
Acai berries are the grape like, purple-coloured fruit of the Acai Palm, which is a a species of palm native to Central and South America. These berries are chock-full of wonderful health-benefiting substances such as amino acids, antioxidants and essential fatty acids and a chemical called Anthocyanin, which is the chemical in red wine, one reason why health experts suggest drinking red wine.
These berries are supposed to have a range of health benefits, including the ability to help fight cancer, diabetes, and bacterial infection, body-detoxing, assistance with cardiovascular and digestive health and the promotion of muscular health.
Because of the reputed health benefits of these products, the “superfood” tag given to acai berry pills and other products, and the so-called “celebrity” endorsements (many of which are bogus), manufacturers are able to charge a hefty premium for the products, enabling them to make MASSIVE profits from people who believe that “magic” pills and potions in these beautifully packaged boxes are the answer to all their problems.
Acai berry pills dont work!
Amazon Indians in Brazil who harvest the berries from the acai palm tree and eat the pulp and drink the juice soon after, probably get quite big nutritional benefits from the vitamin C and purple antioxidant pigments that the berries are said to contain. This is because they consume them fresh, regularly and in sizeable amounts. But can you get the same effects from acai berry pills? The straight answer is “no”!
In fact, despite all the hype, the glossy marketing campaigns and the millions of dollars being sucked from the pockets of deperate people, when it comes to weight loss, there is actually (as at July 2010) no scientific evidence to prove that using acai berry supplements will affect weight or promote weight loss.
Once again, the marketing hype is outweighing the scientific reality – with the result that supplement manufacturers are getting richer and overweight people are getting poorer…and fatter.
When you look at the results of tests of the claims for the “Big Five” herbal supplements, there are some equally surprising results.
